Philoptochos & Men’s League
Our parish is a living witness to the Gospel through the dedicated work of our Philoptochos and Men’s League. The Ladies Philoptochos Society, the "friend of the poor," serves as the philanthropic heart of our community, offering aid to the hungry, the sick, and the distressed with unwavering compassion. Complementing this mission, our Men’s League brings together the men of the parish to support the physical and social needs of the church through various service projects and fundraising events. Together, these ministries provide a powerful opportunity for adults to put their faith into practice. By joining these groups, you become part of a legacy of service that sustains our parish and reaches out to the world in Christ’s name. We invite you to lend your hands and heart to these vital missions of mercy.
Youth & Emerging Generation
Acolytes & St. Stephanos Young Adults We are committed to nurturing the spiritual journey of our young people, from their first steps in the Altar to their transition into adulthood. Our Acolyte program invites young men to serve in the "Holy of Holies," fostering a deep sense of liturgical discipline and reverence for the Divine Services. As our youth grow, the St. Stephanos Young Adult Ministry provides a sacred space for those in their 20s and 30s to navigate the challenges of modern life through the lens of Orthodoxy. These ministries focus on building authentic Christian community, offering a blend of spiritual discussion, social outings, and service opportunities. We believe that by engaging our youth today, we are securing the future of the Church for generations to come. Whether serving at the Altar or gathering for fellowship, our young people are the vibrant "now" of our parish life.
Lifelong Learning & Community
Bible Study & Spirited Seniors The journey of faith is a lifelong pursuit that flourishes within a supportive community of believers. Our Bible Study ministry invites parishioners of all backgrounds to dive deep into the Holy Scriptures, uncovering the timeless wisdom of God’s Word and its application to our daily lives. This intellectual and spiritual growth is beautifully balanced by our Spirited Seniors, a group that celebrates the wisdom and vitality of our elder members through regular fellowship and social engagement. We recognize that every stage of life offers new opportunities to connect with Christ and one another. These ministries ensure that no member of our community walks alone, providing both the "daily bread" of scriptural knowledge and the warmth of lasting friendships. We welcome you to join us as we grow together in grace, wisdom, and Christian love.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Our ministries are designed for those seeking a deeper, more meaningful connection with God, while building lifelong friendships with a vibrant community of people who share your values.
How do I know which ministry is right for me?
Our ministries are designed to meet you where you are in your life and spiritual journey. Whether you are looking for philanthropic work through Philoptochos, spiritual study in our Bible Study, or fellowship in our Young Adult groups, there is a place for everyone. We encourage you to attend a meeting or event to see where your talents and interests align with the needs of the community.
I’ve never been involved before; is it too late to join a group?
It is never too late! Our ministries are open-hearted and always welcoming new members. Most of our groups, such as the Men's League or Spirited Seniors, operate on a rolling basis, meaning you can join at any time during the year. Your unique perspective and energy are exactly what our community needs to stay vibrant and growing.
Who can I contact if I want to start a new ministry or volunteer for an event?
We believe that every parishioner is a vital "member of the body" with unique gifts to offer. If you have an idea for a new initiative or simply want to help with a specific fundraiser or parish festival, please reach out to the Church Office or speak directly with the Parish Priest. We are always looking for "willing hearts" to help expand the work of the Church.

The Archontariki: Our Seniors’ Gathering
Where Wisdom and Friendship Meet
At St. Nicholas, our seniors are the pillars of our home. We invite all our "spirited seniors" to join us for the Archontariki—a special time dedicated to fellowship, laughter, and staying connected to our parish family.
Named after the traditional welcoming rooms of our Orthodox monasteries, the Archontariki is a place to share a coffee, trade stories, and enjoy the company of lifelong friends. It is a reminder that in our parish home, there is always a place for you to be honored, heard, and loved.
Agia Skepi: A Circle of Support
Our Agia Skepi group provides a dedicated space of fellowship for the widowers of our parish. Named for the "Holy Protection" of the Virgin Mary, this group offers a compassionate environment for prayer, mutual understanding, and shared strength. In our parish home, we ensure that no one walks the path of loss alone, inviting all who have experienced this transition to find comfort and brotherhood within our community.
Our Senior Group
Looking for more activity? Our Senior Group is all about keeping the spirit young! From special outings to social gatherings, this group ensures that our seniors remain an active and vibrant part of our daily parish life and meet weekly.

St. Luke's School of Byzantine Iconography
This past fall, we were blessed to begin
our new ministry: St. Luke’s School of Byzantine Iconography. Through our monthly classes, students have been immersed in the
beautiful and sacred art of "writing" icons. We pray that God continues to guide our hearts and hands as we continue on this spiritual journey!
Note on Registration: As we near the completion of this course, registration is now closed. We look forward to seeing our current
students at the remaining sessions.

Byzantine Music School
The classes are held every Thursday at 6:00pm in the school building and are free. The classes are taught by the professor of Byzantine music and master chanter of St. Nicholas Shrine Church in Flushing, Eleftherios Eleftheriadis.
The school has 15 registered students who participate in the Sunday services and holidays at St. Nicholas Church. All students are registered with the New York Chanters Association "Romanos the Melodist" and participate in all the events and concerts of the association.

St. Stephanos Young Adults Fellowship
The St. Stephanos Fellowship is open to all adult members of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Shrine Church between the ages 18-30. Aptly named by one of our priests after one of the first and youngest martyrs of the Christian church, St. Stephen, this group encourages young adults to be active witnesses of their Orthodox faith, through participation in social, spiritual, and philanthropic activities. Whenever possible, our St. Stephanos fellowship also collaborates with other local young adult groups, further expanding our circle of Orthodox Christian fellowship. As the emerging future body of our Orthodox church, there is no greater mission than for our young adults to live out the precepts of our Faith today. Young adults can follow and keep in touch with our St. Stephanos fellowship on Facebook and Instagram.
Acolytes
Boys and young men, ages 8 and above, are encouraged to participate in the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and other holy days by serving in the sanctuary, also known as the altar. This experience provides the opportunity to learn more about our Orthodox Faith and its liturgical tradition. The role of the altar server is essential to the services of the Church. The server has a place of honor in the Divine Liturgy because of his important assistance to the priest. His dedication is a sign of his faith, that he stands ready to serve God in this special way. Altar servers are held to the discipline and standards of the honor of serving in the altar. Boys and young men who are interested in this ministry may contact any of our priests through the church office.
